Start nowGet a replacement log book (V5C)
You need a replacement V5C certificate (vehicle log book) if:
- the original has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed
- you did not receive a V5C after buying or registering the vehicle
You do not need a V5C to tax your vehicle. You can tax it online through the DVLA using your registration number.
If your name or address has changed, or you need to change other details on the V5C, you will need a different application. Tell the DVLA about the change instead.
Apply for a replacement V5C
You must be the registered keeper of the vehicle to apply.
Once we have submitted your application, the DVLA normally posts the replacement V5C within a few weeks. Processing times are set by the DVLA. Contact the DVLA if your new V5C has not arrived after 2 weeks.
When you cannot use this service
You cannot use this service if:
- you need to change any of the details on the V5C
- you do not have the vehicle in your possession
- you have already sent your V5C to the DVLA for changes to be made
- the vehicle is registered as part of the DVLA fleet scheme
- the vehicle is registered abroad, including the Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Ireland
What it costs
Our service costs £49.95. This includes the £25 DVLA fee, checking and completing your application, printing and postage. You can pay by credit or debit card. All prices include VAT where applicable.
An optional urgent dispatch add-on costs £10. Order before 3pm on a working day and we submit your application the same day. It does not make the DVLA process it faster.
You can cancel for a full refund before we submit your application. See our refund policy for full details.
What you need
You will need:

- the vehicle identification number (VIN) or chassis number
- your name and the address registered with the DVLA
You will also need to confirm that you are the registered keeper. Our checker fills in the make and model from the registration number.
